Commercial add-ons - is the price a one-off or annual fee?

Your documentation is a little unclear about the ongoing cost of your paid-for add-ons. I understand that the cost is per domain, but what happens about updates, etc? Is there an annual renewal price? How often are the add-ons updated? Do I have to pay for updates?

Also, is it possible to have an add-on for a development site and then switch it to the 'live' site or do I have to pay twice?
