Back-End > product list: change sort order permanently

The sort order for the product list in the backend seems to be «by ID (ascending)».
I can change the sort order to «by date (descending)» but unfortunately only temporarily.
I would like to permanently have the sort order «by date (descending)».
Is this possible somehow?

$config->adm_prod_list_default_sorting = 'product_id';
$config->adm_prod_list_default_sorting_dir = 'asc';

change to

$config->adm_prod_list_default_sorting = 'product_id';
$config->adm_prod_list_default_sorting_dir = 'desc';

or add (create new user_config.php)

$config->adm_prod_list_default_sorting = 'date';
$config->adm_prod_list_default_sorting_dir = 'desc';
and this works. I am happy now :-)
